Lummox – Combat/Muti Rogue (Cross-realm from Ragnaros)
If you don’t want to read the huge wall of text there is a “tl;dr” version with just the vital bits at the end.
About me
My name is Keith Delahorne, I am 23 years old and live in Sweden. I speak and write fluent English and Swedish, and I am currently studying to become a teacher in Mathematics and Science, though the course-load is very light and leaves my plenty of time for gaming.
I have been gaming for longer than I can count, from LAN matches of Quake, CS, TFC and BF2 to a whole myriad of games on Xbox 360, playing many online multiplayer shooters. Whether it’s playing Call of Duty multiplayer or WoW I always strive to be the best player I can be. An example of this is that back before I played wow I played a lot of Xbox 360, striving to get 1000GS in games and to get it before other people, at my peak I was in the top 5 gamerscore leaders in Sweden, and was even interviewed by a Swedish gaming magazine about it. This isn't me bragging about something you might not care about, but I'm just trying to show that I'm a very competetive and skilled gamer, not only when it comes to WoW.
WoW Gaming Experience
I started playing WoW during the summer of 2008, leveling a Night Elf rogue on Shattered Halls mainly because that was where my brother played. I got to level 70 and grinded heroics, did Kara, ZA with a small guild and also doing SSC and TK pugs on the side. There wasn’t much time to gear up to join a more hardcore guild and see more challenging content before WotLK came, but I joined a guild named Contingent a week before the expansion came out. At the time Contingent was one of the best guilds on Alliance Shattered Halls, but that isn’t saying much.
Once we got to 80 we quickly set to work clearing Naxx, I became an officer and we even managed to down Sarth 3D 25-man months before 3.1 hit, and even Sarth 3D 10 as well. Before Ulduar most of Contingent joined a guild named Calamitous Intent, which was a guild started by former Contingent members. In Calamitous Intent I was an officer as well. We managed to nab several server firsts, as well as doing Ignis before he was hotfixed (back when he would one-shot healers when putting them in slag pot). We managed to get the Rusted Proto-drake and several Ulduar 25-man hardmodes as well. When 3.2 came we were struck with lots of inactivity and an absent GM, although we managed to scrape together Beasts and Jaraxxus hardmode kills and Tribute to Insanity 10-man. Shortly thereafter we decided to transfer to Ragnaros and reform the guild into Dark Matter.
On Ragnaros I was now the GM and we quickly downed Twins HC, getting ToGC 25 4/5. My current progress in ICC 25 is 6/14, and 7/14 in 10-man.
I’ve been either an Officer or acting GM (when our GM went absent for months) and actual GM for most of the time I’ve played in WotLK, and raid leading as well. That meant that when new bosses come out or when it’s time to do hardmodes, I know the fights intimately, not just skimming through the tactics on a site to see what I as a dps needs to do. Just to note that even though I have been officer/raid leader for a while, I have no problem taking a backseat and letting someone else lead. In fact right now I welcome it because at this point I have more fun when I can sit back and let someone else be raid leader.
Attendance/Gaming Hours
I play a lot every day, not just the four hours that we raid, but logging on to do dailies, random heroic for frost badges not just on my main but on my alts, farming/putting stuff up on the AH so I have plenty of gold, and just idling in cities chatting.
Apart from raiding 25-mans I do 10-mans frequently not just on my main but on my lvl 80 DK tank alt who is decked out in assorted 232-245 gear, not just only for the loot but to get additional practice on new bosses like Professor/Lana’thel.
I play pretty much every day of the week, from 15:00-16:00 and onward, excepting Sundays when I go over to my parents for Sunday dinner, but I’m usually back by 18:00 latest. In my current and all my previous guilds I had 99-100% attendance, only missing raids due to a power outage or family emergency.
I can’t put an exact number or times on the hours I play, but it feels like way too much sometimes, but usually even when I’m not online on WoW I’m available nearly 24/7 in one way or another (msn/vent/phone etc) in case I’m needed for an impromptu 10-man or something similar.
Connection/Computer
I have a 50mbit download 10mbit upload connection, which practically never goes down. Last time it went down was several months ago when the ISPs main station got hit by lightning and my internet was down for 5 minutes (other people in the country with the same ISP had no internet for days). I never need to restart my modem or router, and I can count on one hand the total times I’ve disconnected from WoW since I started playing.
I have, of course, a microphone and ventrilo and I’m not afraid to use them. I’m not the silent type that has a mic but no one has ever heard speak on vent.
My computer has a 2.8 GHz dual core AMD processor, 4 GB ram, ATI Radeon HD 5770 1 GB graphics card, running Windows 7. With my setup I am able to play WoW with all settings on high at a stable 30fps in 25-man raids (or 60fps with everything on low).
My Character
http://eu.wowarmory.com/character-sheet ... &cn=Lummox
I am equally comfortable playing Mutilate or Combat, I am currently combat mainly due to us not having any Arms Warrior in raids, so as Combat I can supply the Savage Combat debuff. I have the gear to go muti and I have no problem regemming all my gear for muti if that’s required of me and I'm just as good at playing Muti as I am at combat.
My talents are set up to give me maximum dps, since the changes to poisons I have gone over to a 20/51/0 combat spec. I don’t just take cookie cutter rogue specs, but I check with the current theorycrafting, a spreadsheet and a bunch of common sense in choosing the highest dps talents.
I make sure to keep up to date on the latest rogue theorycrafting, and use Aldriana’s spreadsheet to squeeze the most possible dps out of my character but I’m not afraid to gem different gear and try them for different situations, as spreadsheets aren’t always 100% correct, for example using Agi & Run speed increase enchant on boots which is a dps loss on the spreadsheet, but in heavy movement fights allows me to get to the target quicker, and move out of stuff quicker as well.
My professions are Leatherworking and Jewelcrafting, mainly due to the fact that those were the two best dps professions pre 3.1 and a bit into 3.1. I haven’t made the switch from LW to Engineering mainly due to the fact that I had a lot of the epic BoE recipes in our guild, and has been the case ever since then. For example I have all epic JC recipes, all ToC and ICC LW recipes, and all but one Ulduar recipe.

I try to keep all necessary information near where my eyes are, on my character. If I have vital information at the top of the screen, I don't want to have to be looking all over the place while shit is happening all around me. So I keep my combat points, slice and dice duration, boss health & cast bar and trinket procs etc all right near my character.

Small note on that log, on Wednesdays doing ICC25 is super laggy, and I died on Saurfang due to the other two rogues misdirecting to me instead of in the established order, and due to the lag and the misdirects I pulled aggro and didn’t have time to vanish before the boss one-shot me, but I believe all the Festergut fights (which were wipes due to hitting the enrage timer with the rest of the raid doing low dps) give a good picture of my dps.
Why I want to join your guild
I want to be in a guild that is filled with skilled and focused players, with people who are willing to show up for raids more than just Wednesday. In my current guild in raids I feel that there are 5 or so players who are giving 110% on fights, and then there are people who don’t give as much in raids or spend as much time or thought in being as good players as they can be. Your guild seems like a place where I could fit right in.
While my guild’s progress may not be the best, we have managed to down new 10-man bosses and hardmodes pretty quickly, and I hope my individual gear, progress and abilities show that I am of the level of performance that you are looking for.
As a player I am focused, I have plenty of gold so I show up to raids with more than enough consumables, my own food buff cause it gives me more dps than fish feasts, chug a speed potion before combat so I can use two during the fight, you get the picture. I have no problem wiping all night to learn a fight, and I have the gold and consumables to support it.
Having spent most of my raiding career as an officer/GM and raid leader, I am always completely read up on tactics for boss fights, not just what I as dps am doing but what the tanks and healers are doing. I make sure I know a boss fight from every angle before I even see it in game, and I am a quick learner so it only takes me one or at most two tries to know the fight.
I feel that I can contribute to you guild not just a high level of performance, attendance or just high dps, but as a social and friendly addition to the guild. I’m the kind of person who won’t just do what I’m told as a brainless soldier (not to mean that I won’t listen to directions or orders) but can help and add to the discussion about tactics, what do we maybe need to change in our approach to be able to kill this boss.
In closing I would like to add that I am looking to join your guild together with two other players (which I believe
Killahdude has already discussed with Lambih, one of your officers), Killahdude and Dessa. Dessa is my brother and one of the two sickest healers I have seen (he also has Vala'nyr which doesnt hurt) and Killahdude is one of my best friends and the other of the two best healers I have seen. However I believe that individually we are each of the caliber you are looking for, not that one of us is hoping to ride on the other two getting in.
